    In a continued effort to strengthen the United States’ forward presence and defense posture across the Indo-Pacific, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Japan Engineer District (USACE JED) has completed construction of a new, state-of-the-art Combat Arms Training and Maintenance (CATM) Facility at Yokota Air Base.

He joined Vincent Tutiakoff, mayor of Unalaska, Bil Homka, city manager, and members of the City Council to celebrate the critical milestone at the harbor.

    Lt. Col. Jason Supnet named 2025 USACE 51C Commissioned Officer of the Year

    USAG HUMPHREYS, South Korea — Lt. Col. Jason A. Supnet, military deputy chief of contracting for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District, has been named the 2025 USACE 51C Commissioned Officer of the Year as part of the USACE Excellence in Contracting Awards Program.

    SkillBridge Spotlight Series: 10 Questions with Staff Sgt. Hanwool Lee

    Staff Sgt. Hanwool Lee was a recent SkillBridge intern at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District (USACE FED) in the Information Management Office (IMO). For Lee, born in South Korea and raised in Southern California, there were three reasons why he joined the service: the ability to protect America, to become a citizen and for the career and education opportunities the U.S. Army provides. He now plans to apply his skills from the Army to civilian life.

    Temporary flood barriers prove effective during flood event in Juneau

    During the week of August 11, the Mendenhall Glacier released its yearly glacier lake outburst flood, also known as a jökulhlaup (Yah-cuh-laup). In preparation for the potential threat to infrastructure and public safety, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers provided temporary flood mitigation barriers to the City and Borough of Juneau last winter. While USACE continues to prepare a technical study that will help to define the parameters of an enduring flood risk mitigation solution, these barriers provided vital short-term protection to the community along the river this week by holding back the glacial water released from Suicide Basin and performing well during the peak of the floodwaters.
  • Senior leaders from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Alaska District attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Barrow Coastal Erosion Project in the community of Utqiagvik on Aug. 11. The project will reduce the risk of storm damage to about five miles of coastline by construction of a rock revetment at the bluff area, building a protective berm and raising Stevenson Street.

    Representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Alaska District participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Barrow Coastal Erosion Project in the community of Utqiagvik on Aug. 11. They joined representatives of the North Slope Borough and the contractor to celebrate the construction of the critical shoreline protection, which began in July after the first batch of armor rock arrived from Nome on the 28th.

    New ADR Equipment Warehouse Boosts Airfield Readiness at Yokota Air Base

    YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — A major step forward in U.S. Air Force airfield resilience was reached this summer as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Japan Engineer District (JED), completed construction of a state-of-the-art Airfield Damage Repair (ADR) Equipment Warehouse at Yokota Air Base, home of the 374th Airlift Wing.

    Construction is underway on the new, uniquely designed two-story Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) at Camp Carroll, South Korea. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Far East District, the $44 million facility includes multiple work bays, integrated workshops, wash bays, and eight bridge cranes. This innovative vertical design maximizes limited space while enhancing maintenance capabilities and logistics support for U.S. Army operations across the Pacific region.     Enhancing operational readiness through innovative design at Camp Carroll, South Korea

    A transformative addition to the U.S. Army’s infrastructure in the Pacific theater is taking shape with the construction of a modern two-story Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) at Camp Carroll. The $44 million project, funded through the Republic of Korea Funded Construction (ROKFC)-in-kind program, is underway and set to significantly enhance the operational readiness of Army Prepositioned Stock-4 (APS-4).
