    New recycling center ready for occupants

    The new recycling center aboard Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan is one step closer to opening now that the keys are in the hands of installation managers.
  • During the summers of 2010 and 2011, the Kenaitze Indian Tribe work crew demolished Wildwood Air Force Station's Buildings 100 and 101. The project was made possible by the Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program and conducted through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Alaska District.

    Unique federal program cleans tribal lands, creates jobs in Alaska

    For nearly 40 years, Wildwood Air Force Station’s buildings 100 and 101 stood as abandoned relics of the Department of Defense. Now, the demolition of the facilities and other restorative projects on the same land are providing a local federally recognized native tribe with new opportunities.

The Alaska District, in collaboration with the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Local Government Engineering Department of Bangladesh, completed the roads in the first government-to-government agreement in the country. The roads are instrumental in helping local farmers get their crops to the market, children get to school easier and facilitating families’ access to medical clinics, thus increasing the quality of life for the people of the region.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Alaska District is helping to ‘pave the way’ in Bangladesh by assisting with the construction of roads, market places and irrigation projects.

    Kim Adkins, Readiness and Contingency Operations, Operations Chief for the Northwestern Division was recently recognized as 2014 Emergency Manager of the Year by the Chief of Engineers, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters. Her recognition as Emergency Manager of the Year spotlights her role as the Civil Emergency Program Manager for POD during day-to-day operations and in support of disaster response operations.

    Kim Adkins, Readiness and Contingency Operations, operations chief for the Northwestern Division was recently recognized as 2014 Emergency Manager of the Year by the Chief of Engineers, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters. Adkins recently returned to the Northwestern Division after spending the last four years working as the POD Civil Emergency Program Manager for the Readiness and Contingency Operations Division. Since returning to NWD, she has deployed to Washington State in support of the wildfires that struck the eastern part of the state in August.
