U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska District, presented Celebrate Safety awards to construction and environmental contractors in ceremonies held at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and Fort Wainwright yesterday and today. Celebrate Safety is an Alaska District program that recognizes and promotes excellence in safety through teamwork with the goal of zero accidents. The Corps evaluated the contractors based on their safety emphasis and performance relative to the project complexity and its environment. From the winning contractors, Dutra Dredging Company was selected as Celebrate Safety Contractor of the Year.
Contractors winning awards for work in 2011 included: Watterson-Davis, Joint Venture, for work on the F22A weapons loading crew training facility at JBER-Elmendorf; White Mountain Construction, LLC, for work on the Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity POL (petroleum, oil and lubricants) removal contract at various Alaskan locations; Kiewit Building Group, Inc. for work on a Fort Wainwright barracks; CH2M/Hill Constructors, Inc., for work on the 3rd Air Support operations facility at Fort Wainwright; Brice Environmental Services Corporation for work on the Eielson Farm Road AAA Formerly Used Defense Site contaminated soil removal project; Dutra Dredging Company for harbor improvements, Phase 3 on Saint Paul Island; Marsh Creek, LLC, for clearing at the Chena River Lakes Flood Control project at North Pole; and G2 Construction, Inc. for work on the Urban Assault Course at Fort Wainwright.
Individual safety awards were presented to Charles Croley of Bristol Environmental Remediation Services, LLC, for work at Northeast Cape HTRW (Hazardous Toxic Radiological Waste) remedial action project and to Patricia Bowen of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Fairbanks Resident Office for work on the urban assault course at Fort Wainwright.
Alaska District Commander Col. Reinhard W. Koenig and Safety and Occupational Health Manager Harry “Buster” Godwin presented the awards.
