    Three Generations, One Mission: The Yo Family’s Century of Service at USACE Far East District

    For many employees, working at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District (USACE FED) is a career. For the Yo family, it has become a legacy spanning three generations built on dedication, gratitude, and a shared commitment to service. As longtime Visual Information Specialist Yo Kyong-il prepares to retire after more than four decades with the district, his career reflects not only the transformation of technology and the growth of the organization, but also the enduring values that have shaped his family’s connection to FED. Mr. Yo began his career in April 1985 as a supply clerk. His path to FED was inspired by his father, Yo Joon-gook, who worked as a district gardener with the Logistics Management Office and held a deep affection for the organization.

    Mission Success through Safety: Jamie Hagio honored with USACE FY25 Excellence in Safety Award

    Jamie Hagio, Chief of the Construction Division for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District (USACE – FED), has been awarded the USACE Fiscal Year 2025 Individual Award for Excellence in Safety during the USACE Safety Community of Practice meeting on Feb. 11, 2026. This prestigious honor recognizes Hagio’s transformative leadership and his success in fostering a proactive safety culture within one of the Corps’ most complex operating environments.

    Construction is underway on the new, uniquely designed two-story Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) at Camp Carroll, South Korea. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Far East District, the $44 million facility includes multiple work bays, integrated workshops, wash bays, and eight bridge cranes.     Enhancing operational readiness through innovative design at Camp Carroll, South Korea

    A transformative addition to the U.S. Army’s infrastructure in the Pacific theater is taking shape with the construction of a modern two-story Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) at Camp Carroll. The $44 million project, funded through the Republic of Korea Funded Construction (ROKFC)-in-kind program, is underway and set to significantly enhance the operational readiness of Army Prepositioned Stock-4 (APS-4).

    When it comes to keeping military installations safe and operational, the vital work of structural engineers often goes unnoticed. Yet these professionals form the backbone of every building, bridge, and facility that supports the Department of Defense’s mission. Donghyuk Chai, Supervisory Civil (Structural) Engineer, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District (FED), is one such individual whose quiet but powerful contributions impact the lives of countless military families across South Korea.

    FED Intern Spotlight: Lauren Wougk

    Lauren Wougk began her career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) as a student employee with the Transatlantic Middle East District (TAM) in the summer of 2019. Wougk was later hired as a Department of Army (DA) intern in October 2021, when she acquired her master’s degree in civil engineering at Rutgers University.

    Far East District’s experts regulate asbestos to protect environment and USFK personnel

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Far East District (FED) Environmental Section has two accredited environmental laboratories: a chemistry laboratory and an asbestos laboratory. The chemistry laboratory was validated by the USACE Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste Mandatory Center of Expertise in September 2004. The asbestos laboratory obtained the Industrial Hygiene Laboratory Accreditation from the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) on July 1, 2005, and has been audited every two years, maintaining accreditation.
