U.S.-Nepal disaster response efforts
Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Milhorn, Commanding General for USACE-Pacific Ocean Division, inaugurates the new Crash Fire Rescue Station at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. The $1.3 million building was completed in September 2015. USACE Alaska District managed the construction. This U.S. Embassy-sponsored project ensures the emergency response capacity of the airport with a seismically sound structure that will allow for rapid response and observation of any crisis. Milhorn, who was also the Deputy Commander of JTF 505 during the earthquake response, met with representatives from the Nepalese Army to discuss ways to improve their bilateral disaster response efforts and ensure future cooperation between the Nepalese Army and U.S. military.
