The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Alaska District received the Secretary of the Army award in Environmental Restoration for developing innovative and cost-efficient solutions to the difficulties encountered at Northeast Cape Formerly Used Defense Sites. Cleanup involved excavation, transportaton and disposal of more than 44,000 tons of contaminated soil.
