Bangladesh Cyclone Shelter
U.S. and Bangladesh officials participate in the dedication ceremony for the new Coastal Crisis Management Center for the Bangladesh Coast Guard, one of 12 completed since 2011 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Pacific Ocean Division, under the U.S. Pacific Command's Humanitarian Assistance Program. The completed facility incorporates a proven cyclone shelter design that can provide refuge for up to 1,500 people, withstand an 8.0 earthquake and nearly 140 mph winds with self-contained solar power generation and water facilities.
