JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District selected Michael Coy as the new chief of the real estate branch effective July 27.

Coy is now charged with providing the planning, acquisition, appraisal, management and disposal realty services to the Army, Air Force and National Guard elements in Alaska. Other responsibilities include the leasing of recruiting facilities required for all armed services in the state.

Prior to joining the Corps, Coy worked for the 673rd Civil Engineer Squadron for four years. While there, he served as the chief of real property for Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and its outlying properties. When Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson merged in 2010, it was his task to ensure the real property offices transitioned together as one cohesive unit to manage more than 5,000 facilities and about 100,000 acres of land.

Coy retired from the National Guard in 2007 where he served as a dual status technician. During his tenure, his civilian job was a realty officer for the Guard while working several military occupations as well. Afterwards, he took his realty expertise to the department of public works at Fort Richardson.

In 1988, he began working for the Small Business Administration in Anchorage after seven years of enlistment in the Army. Coy joined the military in 1981 after high school graduation and was assigned to the 14th Engineer Battalion at Fort Ord, Calif.; 54th Engineer Battalion at Wildflecken, Germany; and the 562nd Engineer Company at Fort Richardson, Alaska.
