The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced that Drew Benziger, Chief of Pacific Ocean Division’s Readiness Contingency Operations, is the 2011 USACE Emergency Manager of the Year. Muilenburg (left), U.S. Pacific Fleet staff, receives an appreciation gift for his contributions to the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Honolulu Post from U.S. Army Col. Gregory J. Gunter, U.S. Army Corps of Engineer Pacific Ocean Division commander and SAME Honolulu Post president during its 2013 Pacific Industry Forum at the Ala Moana Hotel May 8. The SAME unites architecture, engineering, construction, facility management, and environmental entities and individuals in the public and private sectors to prepare for and overcome natural and man-made disasters, and to improve security at home and abroad.

Representatives from the Mongolian Armed Forces explore interpolated raster surfaces at the Advanced Geographic Informatin Systems (GIS)Workshop. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers led the instruction at the U.S, Pacific Command-sponsored workshop, which was the third in a series of GIS exchanges that have coupled subject matter experts from Mongolia and the United States.

Douglas Swanson from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers explains iterative coordinate transformation modeling during the Advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS)Workshop, which was conducted in Mongolia April 29 to May 2. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers led the instruction at the U.S. Pacific Command-sponsored workshop. The workshop was the third in a series of GIS exchanges that have coupled subject matter experts from Mongolia and the United States.

Gunter (center) is pictured with students who received awards for being  outstanding senior and junior researchers in the engineering field at the 56th Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair awards ceremony April 10 in Honolulu.  Gunter presented the awards on behalf of the Society of American Military Engineers Honolulu Post, of which he is the current president.  The Army Corps of Engineers is committed to teaming with others to support programs that inspire current and future generations of young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

Thomas Mun, who is an electrical engineer at the Pacific Ocean Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, logs on to the eCybermission website.  Mun was a volunteer virtual judge for the 2012/2013 eCybermission program competition.  The U.S. Army-sponsored program is designed to share the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education with America's youth--tomorrow's leaders. Mun evaluated 65 student projects, helping students understand real-life application of STEM fields.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Pacific Ocean Division’s Readiness and Contingency Operations team  is comprised of active duty Soldiers, Civilians, and Drilling Individual Mobilization Augmentee (DIMA) Reserve Soldiers. DIMA Soldiers supported the Division during Key Resolve 13, a major annual exercise designed to enhance the Republic of Korea-United States Alliance. Pictured in the front row are Staff Sgt. Tisa C.
