Brig. Gen. Thomas J. Tickner relinquished his position as commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pacific Ocean Division to Col. Kirk E. Gibbs, during a social distance adherence change of command and responsibility ceremony, July 8.
Col. Kirk E. Gibbs took command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pacific Ocean Division during a ceremony presided over by Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, 54th Chief of Engineers and Commanding General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The F-35 Lightning II is a 5th Generation fighter, combining advanced stealth with fighter speed and agility, fully fused sensor information, network-enabled operations and advanced sustainment. Three variants of the F-35 will replace the A-10 and F-16 for the U.S. Air Force, the F/A-18 for the U.S. Navy, the F/A-18 and AV-8B Harrier for the U.S. Marine Corps, and a variety of fighters for at least ten other countries.
The Westport, a red and white hopper dredge operated by Manson Construction, dredges near the Port of Alaska on April 3, 2019. From May 1 to Nov. 1 each year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers removes built-up sediment from the seafloor near the Port of Alaska to maintain shipping channels and dock access. An estimated 50 percent of all goods entering Alaska come through this port.
Matt Johnson, program manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Alaska District, briefs Brig. Gen. Thomas Tickner, commanding general of the Corps' Pacific Ocean Division, on the construction plan for the alternate care facility at the Alaska Airlines Center on April 21 in Anchorage. After receiving a mission assignment from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the district assisted the state by converting a portion of the arena into an alternate care site capable of treating up to 51 patients. The project was completed and turned over to state medical officials on April 17. Tickner praised the collaborative efforts of federal, state and local authorities to lower the risk and keep Alaskans safe during the coronavirus health crisis.

The Army division conducted the change of responsibility from Command Sgt. Maj. Patrickson Toussaint to Command Sgt. Maj. Douglas W. Galick.

ON THE LEADING EDGE

The National Academy of Construction (NAC) has elected Gene Ban, director of programs, USACE, Pacific Ocean Division, as a member of its 2017 class. He was inducted October 26 at the NAC Annual Meeting, which was held at the Fairmont Georgetown. Ban was cited by the Academy as a strategist and top civilian in the Army Senior Executive Service who has provided leadership to multi-agency military construction programs involving international host nations, territories, and governments.
